I was born in ballarat, a town of 80,000 people, one music shop and one pub that played live and original music. By the time is was 16, i loved punk music but found it bloody hard to get it.
If you wanted real punk music, you had to go to Melbourne. In Melbourne was a punk CD store and in 1997 you wanted to find new and cool bands you bought a cd sampler.
At the time in 1998, Fat Wreckcords was king and they released some sample album like “fat music for fat people,” a sample cd was like a playlist and it gave you the chance to hear new bands. This when i first heard mainland.
I had heard Some Irish music but i had never heard “celtic punk” and i have been hooked since. The real mckenzies are an awesome band and they have been rocking since 1995. In that time they have had a lot of members but kept Paul McKenzie. If you want a classic celtic punk band who puts out an awesome album every year or so, this is them.
